Fiji Red Cross Society and Meta Foundation Join Forces for “Save The Fish, Clean the Drain Campaign

The Fiji Red Cross Society, in partnership with META, is thrilled to announce the official launch of the innovative “Save the Fish, Clean the Drain” campaign.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in the Fiji Red Cross Society’s ongoing commitment to disaster preparedness while fostering stronger community bonds and stakeholder engagement across all 16 Branches.

The “Save the Fish, Clean the Drain” campaign calls for Branch volunteers to collaborate with community members and stakeholders within their territories to undertake the vital task of cleaning drains and waterways.

Key highlights of the campaign include:
Branch-Centred Competition: All 16 Fiji Red Cross Society Branches are gearing up for a spirited
competition with a grand prize of $10,000 in cash. This substantial sum will be channelled into
community and development initiatives by the winning Branch, directly benefitting the communities
they serve.

Cash Prizes for Community Members: Community members actively participating in the final
“Clean the Drain” activity have a chance to win cash prizes. By capturing captivating action shots or
selfies during the event and sharing them on the official Facebook page along with hashtags
#savethefishcleanthedrain, #IsupportmyRCBranch, participants can secure rewards based on the
creativity of their submissions and the level of engagement generated.

Community Well-Being and Environmental Sustainability: The campaign addresses two pressing
issues in Fiji – plastic pollution and the preservation of marine life, as well as the prevention of
flooding due to blocked drainage systems. Through active community involvement in this cleanup
initiative, the campaign aims to foster a more sustainable and healthier environment for all.

Stay Connected and Engage: We encourage everyone to follow the Fiji Red Cross Society Facebook
page and visit our website at fijiredcross.org to access up-to-date coverage from Branches across the
country.

Ms. Ragigia Dawai, Director General of Fiji Red Cross Society, highlights the community-focused approach of the campaign, stating, “Although the Branch wins this money, it is eventually used to help further Branch activities targeted at building resilience and getting their communities disaster ready. So a win for the Branch is a win for the community. I would like to call upon people from different areas around Fiji to support their Red Cross Branches and to also participate in the activity.”

This campaign is an exciting opportunity for all Fijians to come together and make a positive impact in our communities.
