The Fiji Red Cross Society revived its annual charity ball to raise funds to continue to maintain our community programmes in Fiji.
The annual charity event this year took place after a lapse of 15 years, on 7th July at the Britannia room at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Contributions towards this event helped strengthen Fiji Red Cross Society’s role as a humanitarian service provider to maintain our capacity in offering community assistance throughout Fiji.
It is important that Fiji has a strong National Red Cross Society that has the capacity to respond from any of our 16 Red Cross Branches located throughout Fiji.
Some of the current programs run by the Fiji Red Cross are;
Disaster Preparedness (Emergency Response Training), Management, Risk Reduction, Restoring Family Links, Recovery (Shelter programming), Fire Case Assistants.
Health – TB, Community Based Health & Safety, Climate Change, Water and Sanitation, NCD,
Psychosocial Support, Health & Hygiene Promotion, Child Malnutrition Assessment.
Youth Engagement, Volunteer Management.
First Aid Services – Mind the Child, Community First Aid, Water Safety, Corporate training
Gender – Supporting People with Disabilities, Gender Based Violence Awareness, Pre and Post gender awareness
During TC Keni and Josie earlier this year, our team reached 20,445 people, supplying them with water containers, hygiene kits, shelters kits, clothes and other necessities.
At the end of April this year, FRCS assisted 333 Communities/villages and Evacuation Centres who were affected by TC Keni and Josie. This was mainly in Kadavu and the Western part of Fiji.
We continue to carry out community preparedness, and awareness to ensure people take a proactive approach towards their disaster preparedness.
The charity ball will help us continue the work that we do, ensuring communities are resilient to natural disasters.
